Après plus que 36 ans de service loyal et dévoué aux Forces armées canadiennes et aux Génies militaires canadiens, le Capt Rick Mayne, CD, prendra sa retraite le 30 juin 2022. Capt Rick Mayne joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1986 as a Crewman. After Basic Training, he was posted to Recce Sqn with the Lord Strathcona’s Horse Royal Canadians.

Capt Mayne spent eleven years with the Strathcona’s in Recce Sqn, apart from two years with the Ceremonial Mounted Troop and a three-year posting to the Armored School in Gagetown. From 1988 to 1998, Capt Mayne participated in numerous exercises and completed an operational tour in Cyprus and in Bosnia.

In 1998, then MCpl Mayne made a career move to become a Geomatics Technician within the Engineer Corps. Following a two-year training program at the School of Military Mapping in Ottawa, he deployed to Bosnia for the second time in support of the 2 PPCLI Battle Group. Upon returning to Ottawa in 2002, he was promoted to Sgt and subsequently posted to MARLANT in Halifax as the first Geo Tech providing Geo support to the Navy. In 2006, he was promoted to WO but remained in Halifax with a posting to the Standing Contingency Force (SCF).

In 2007, WO Mayne was posted back to the Mapping and Charting Establishment in Ottawa as the Ops WO for the Geomatics Support Sqn. In 2008, WO Mayne deployed to Afghanistan on OP RAMPANT LION. He spent 2009 at the Language School in Gatineau and upon completion of second language training, he was promoted to MWO and appointed as the SSM of Geo Sp Sqn. From 2010 to 2014, MWO Mayne made his way through various SSM positions within MCE, culminating as the Chief Instructor and SSM of the School of Military Mapping.

In 2014, he was posted to 4 ESR in Gagetown and in 2015, to JFC Naples in Italy, where was promoted to CWO in 2017. After returning to Canada, he was posted to the School of Military Mapping in Ottawa and shortly thereafter, was selected to be the first RSM of the Joint Targeting Intelligence Centre. In 2020, he commissioned to his current rank and was posted to 37 CBG HQ in Moncton, NB.

Following his retirement in June 2022, Rick and Lena will reside on Steeves Mountain, NB, spending their time golfing and visiting their children and grandchildren.
