Douglas Gardiner

    We regret to advise of the death of Douglas Gardiner of Barrie ON, peacefully on 3 January 2020 at the age of 98. Doug was a veteran of the Second World War and served in the Royal Canadian Engineers. Doug went on to serve in the post-war Royal Canadian Engineers for some 30 years.

    Doug enlisted for the Second World War in 1940. He was initially employed as a Clerk/Administrator in the construction and maintenance of facilities for training and Prisoner-in-War camps in Ontario at Camp Borden, North Bay, Owen Sound, Brampton and Monteith. Doug then served overseas with 11th Canadian Field Park Company in England, Belgium, Holland and Germany.

    After the war, Doug joined the post-war Royal Canadian Engineers of the Permanent Force. He then served for almost 30 years in locations such as Oakville ON, Whitehorse YT, London ON, Picton ON, Camp Borden ON, and Chilliwack BC. Doug retired from the Canadian Forces in 1975.

    At Doug’s request there will be no service. Cremation has taken place. Friends are asked to donate to South Lake Cardiac/Cancer Hospital at Newmarket. A private family interment will be held on Saturday, 10 July 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at the Barrie Union Cemetery (338 Sunnidale Rd., Barrie). Online condolences can be sent to the funeral home.
