    Corporal Shad Wellman born on October 19, 1979, in Blanc Sablon, Canada. He currently resides in Twillingate, Newfoundland. Has had a distinguished career in the Canadian Armed Forces, marked by a transition from an infanteer to a firefighter.

    Corporal Wellman officially enrolled in the military on July 3, 2003, at the Canadian Forces Recruiting Center in Saguenay, Quebec. He was promoted to Private (Basic) on November 14, 2003, and subsequently to Private (Trained) on January 3, 2006. His early postings included assignments with the 4th Canadian Division Training  
    Centre in Meaford, Ontario, and the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment (3 RCR) in Petawawa, Ontario.
    During his time with 3 RCR, Corporal Wellman served in various roles including Rifleman, Section Second-in-Command (2IC), Weapons Operator, and Company Quartermaster Storesman. Notably, he was deployed to Afghanistan as a driver with Task Force Afghanistan Roto 6 from September 2008 to April 2009. His service in Afghanistan earned him the General Campaign Star – South-West Asia.

    In 2012, Corporal Wellman transitioned to firefighter, marking a significant shift in his military career. His initial posting as a Fire Rescue Technician was at CFB/ASU Petawawa, Ontario. In 2013, he was transferred to CFB Bagotville in Alouette, Quebec, where he continued to serve in various firefighter capacities.

    Corporal Wellman’s commitment to excellence continued as he was posted to CFB Gander in Newfoundland and Labrador in 2021, serving as a Fire Inspector. Employed by 9 Mission Support Squadron, he was attached to the Real Property Operations Unit (Atlantic) Detachment Gander in January 2023.

    Throughout his career, Corporal Wellman has demonstrated a strong sense of duty and community service. He has volunteered on numerous occasions to be a sentry guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Ottawa, reflecting his dedication to honoring the memory of those who have served.

    Corporal Wellman was promoted to his current rank on July 3, 2007. Throughout his career, he has received several decorations, including the Special Service Medal – ALERT on February 2, 2016, the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD) on January 7, 2016, and the General Campaign Star – South-West Asia on March 30, 2009.
    Corporal Wellman is partnered with Jennifer Stuckless. They reside in Twillingate, Newfoundland, where they enjoy the community and the beauty of the region.

    Corporal Shad Wellman’s career reflects his dedication, adaptability, and commitment to serving his country in various capacities, from the rigorous demands of infantry service to the crucial role of a firefighter. His volunteer work as a sentry guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier further underscores his respect for military traditions and the sacrifices of his fellow soldiers. He will be retiring on July 31, 2024, after over 18 years of dedicated service.
