Corporal Kyle Scott, MSM, MiD, CD (Ret'd)

Born and raised in Whitecourt, Alberta, Kyle joined the Canadian Forces as a Combat Engineer in 2001 and was posted to 1 Combat Engineer Regiment. During his career, he deployed on Op GRIZZLY 2002, Op HONOUR 2005, Op ATHENA Roto 2 Kabul 2004, and Op ARCHER Roto 1 Kandahar in 2006. He was awarded a Mention in Dispatches for actions in Helmand province on 22 July 2006. Kyle was medically released from the Canadian Forces in 2008.
Kyle has been active in veterans advocacy for over 15 years and continues to dedicate much of his spare time seeking to improve the mental health, and quality of life of our veteran community. He is a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, having served on committees from the Branch level, District, and Dominion Command levels of the organization.
He has sought to care for the final resting place of Canadian and Allied veterans buried across Canada and beyond through the Veterans Affairs Graveside maintenance program, and as a member of the Last Post Fund Unmarked Grave Program since 2018. In that time, he has discovered and submitted over 1550 unmarked Veteran Graves for permanent Military Grave Markers.
In 2017, he began a mission to find Canadian Veterans and their families who might be owed Canadian Honours or need their honours replaced. He created the group Canadian Veterans Owed or Missing Medals, and has since assisted 1800 veterans and their families and counting in receiving honours and awards.
Kyle has been awarded the following honours: Meritorious Service Medal (Civil), Sacrifice Medal, SWASM with Mention in Dispatches, General Campaign Star with first rotation bar, Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers, The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal, The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medal (Alberta), Commander in Chief Unit Citation, Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation, Command Commendation.Since his release from the Canadian Forces, he has pursued a career in Natural Gas as a Journeyman Gas Fitter, working for ATCO in his hometown of Whitecourt. He is married to Koren, and has two sons, Declan and Niall.
