Cpl George “Sonny” Moore (Ret’d)

We regret to advise of the death of Corporal George “Sonny” Moore (Ret’d), a resident of Meadowview Villa in Lambton ON on 28 February 2023 in his 90th year.
Sonny enlisted in the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1956 at the age of 23 years. He undertook his training as a Field Engineer at the Royal Canadian School of Military Engineering in Chilliwack BC. During his career, Sonny had postings to Gagetown NB and served overseas in Germany as well as Egypt with the United Nations Emergency Force. Sonny also served at Canadian Forces Station Alert in the Arctic in the Northwest Territories.
Sonny retired from the Canadian Forces in 1966 at the rank of Corporal. He then worked as an Electrician and was hired by the Ministry of Transportation to work on the design of the “Golden Mile” and Highway 40. Sonny was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 52 years. He was a recipient of a Quilt of Valour, as part of the Quilt of Valour Program which provides a quilt to selected Canadian Armed Forces members, past or present, for their bravery and commitment to Canada and its citizens.
Cremation has taken place with a private burial to be held at a later date at Resurrection Cemetery. A Celebration of Sonny’s Life will take place on Friday, 10 March 2023 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 216 Petrolia ON. Online condolences can be sent to the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Lambton Meadowview Auxiliary.
