We regret to advise of the death of Corporal Carman “Jack” Stock, CD (Ret’d) at the Brandon Regional Health Centre in Manitoba on 24 April 2021 at age 82 after a long period of illness.

Jack was born in Gibson ON. He was a Six Nations (Wahta) Mohawk and attended the Mohawk Institute Residential School in Brantford ON up to Grade 8. Jack enlisted in the Canadian Forces and joined the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1961.

Jack’s military career allowed him to serve from coast to coast within Canada and took him overseas to Germany. He served a full career as a Combat Engineer with our field squadrons in Chilliwack BC, Petawawa ON, Camp Gagetown NB and in Germany. Jack also served on two United Nations Peacekeeping missions.

Jack’s final posting was to CFB Shilo in 1978 with the German Army Training Establishment. He settled in there for more than 40 years and they bought their first home in the community of Sprucewoods when he retired from the Canadian Forces in 1985.  Jack was a member of the Shilo Men’s Club and Royal Canadian Legion for 47 years and was an excellent curler and dart player.

Jack could build or fix almost anything and would spend his time helping his neighbours and kids build or fix something well into his 80s. He enjoyed times with friends and their yard was often the place that a bonfire would be burning and neighbours would stop in for a drink and to share stories. Jack enjoyed the connection with many people he had served with and some of his best times in later years were meeting up with old army buddies and sharing stories from those times.

Jack’s family will cherish Jack’s memory privately. In lieu of flowers, please give to a charity of your choice. Condolences can be sent to the funeral home
