We regret to advise of the death of Colonel William David “Bill”Johnston, OMM, CD (Ret’d) peacefully at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, MB on 19 June 2018 at age 83.

Bill was born in Toronto, ON where he joined the military in 1952 at the age of 18. His career spanned 37 years in Construction Engineering with the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Military Engineers and his service saw him and his family posted all across Canada, as well as to Germany. Bill’s career highlights included his being appointed Commanding Officer of 1 Construction Engineering Unit (1974-76) and Deputy Chief of Staff Military Engineering at Air Command Headquarters (1983-87).

Bill was invested as an Officer of Military Merit in 1978. After retiring from the Canadian Forces in 1989 he was briefly involved in consulting work in the very early days of the DEW (Distant Early Warning) Line environmental clean-up project in the Canadian Arctic.

A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue in Winnipeg on Friday, 29 June 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow.
