    After more than 33 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, Col Steve MacEwen, CD, will retire on 28 April 2024. A DwD function will be held at the RCAF Officers’ Mess, 4 Queen Elizabeth Way, Ottawa, on Friday, 19 April 2024, starting at 14:00 hours. Anecdotes and well wishes may be sent to LCol J.E.J.     Colonel MacEwen joined the Canadian Forces in 1990 as a Direct Entry Officer. His command appointments include Commanding Officer of 1 Engineer Support Unit and Officer Commanding Construction Engineering Squadron at 8 Wing Trenton. Other line officer positions include various Construction Engineering sections and 1 Construction Engineering Unit.

    His staff positions include the Joint Headquarters in Kingston in the engineer and CIMIC staffs, Chief of Air Staff in Director Air Programmes (Infrastructure), Canadian Forces Expeditionary Command as J3 Engineer Environment and Operations, 1 Canadian Air Division Headquarters as A4 Construction Engineering Force Generation, the Strategic Joint Staff as Director Support Operations Coordination, RCAF HQ as Director Air Support, and finally as the Chief of Staff at Canadian Forces Transition Group Headquarters.

    Colonel MacEwen has deployed to the Golan Heights as part of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force, Montreal with Operation Recuperation, Honduras with the Disaster Alert Response Team, several infrastructure and environmental projects in the former Yugoslavia, and to Kandahar as Officer Commanding the Engineer Support Unit.

    Colonel MacEwen holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering, a Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering and is a registered Professional Engineer.
