Jim Harris has reported that the new Chilliwack Military Museum is quickly setting-up in its new home in downtown Chilliwack. It is located at 45915 Wellington Ave., Chilliwack, BC V2P 2C6 (click on the map image to the right).
The facility is about 1750 sq ft in size. Unfortunately, it will not hold all of our artefacts but thanks to 39 CER's Honorary Colonel Bill Diamond, one and possibly a second 20-foot sea container has been made available for cold storage.
The move has being financed with funds from the CFB Chilliwack Historical Society and donations to a GoFundMe Page at: https://www.gofundme.com/save-the-chilliwack-military-museum. The marquis signage shown in the images is a donation from Kinetics Signs in Chilliwack. Their majority owner is also giving us a lot of free advertising at Rock 89.5 radio where he is the GM.
The new facility has improved security with security cameras that record in colour, day and night. There are also newly installed motion detectors and a monitored alarm system. The Museum is also handicap accessible.
On 1 December, the Museum will open its doors during the Christmas Parade and serve hot chocolate. An area will be roped off so interested onlookers can get an idea what is being built. Once the Museum volunteers get the inside exhibits organized and everything in place, hopefully by 15 December, they will open their doors for four days every week for five hours daily. The next update will include photos of the Museum's interior. The official opening will be early January.
