ADM(IE) Real Property Operations Det Borden (RP Ops Det) was host to the 2014 Canadian Military Engineers (CME) Central Region Beaver Cup hockey tournament, which featured 9 teams from across Ontario and Quebec.
The Beaver Cup has its origins in the 1970’s and was hosted by CFB Borden with hopes to boost kinship and Esprit de Corps between units. Since then, the Western, Central, and Atlantic divisions have been created to make it easier for teams from across Canada to take part in this friendly competition.
This year was no disappointment. Held from April 8th to April 10th, the tournament was full of action and energy from the first puck drop to the final goal. The teams included 2 teams from RP Ops Det Borden, Defence Construction Canada (DCC) Ontario, Service Genie Montreal, 5 Regiment de Genie de Combat (5 RGC) Valcartier, 1 Engineering Support Unit (1 ESU) Kingston, CE 8 Wing Trenton, Mapping and Charting Establishment (MCE) Ottawa, and 31 Combat Engineer Regiment (31CER) St. Thomas. Participants included Regular and Reserve force Engineers, DND Civilians and DCC personnel.
After intense play in round robin and semi-final action, 5 RGC Valcartier emerged as the victors and their names have been added to the coveted Beaver Cup trophy. All engineers look forward to hearing from the next engineering unit available to host this time honoured tradition next year.
