He started his military experience as a Reservist with the Fort Garry Horse in 1968 and joined the Regular Force in 1973 as a Direct Entry Officer. After completing his Basic Officer Training at the Canadian Forces Officer Candidate School, Bill began his training as a Canadian Military Engineering Officer. Completing this training in 1974, Bill was posted to Canadian Forces Base Greenwood NS. This first tour was followed by a posting to 1 Combat Engineer Regiment in Chilliwack, after which was a succession of postings as a Construction Engineering Officer.

Bill served next with Canadian Forces Training System Headquarters in Trenton ON, and was then appointed Station Construction Engineering Officer at Canadian Forces Station Dana SK. A posting to Canadian Forces Base London with the Construction Engineering Section followed, after which he attended the University of British Columbia for his Masters Degree. Bill then moved to Winnipeg, where he served the remainder of his career with Air Command Headquarters and Canadian Forces Base Winnipeg.

Bill retired from the Canadian Forces in 2000 after a military career that spanned 32 years as a member of both the Reserves and the Regular Force. Bill’s career also included a peacekeeping deployment to Egypt.

Bill pursued a second career as Senior Facilities Manager at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. That career took him across Canada, the US and abroad to Europe and the Middle East in a wide variety of roles and industries.

A private remembrance event took place on 5 May 2023 on what would have been Bill and Cathy’s 50th wedding anniversary.  He rests in a peaceful river near home.
