    We regret to advise of the death of Captain Donat Lamarre (Retd) on 18 March 2012 at the age of 87.

    Donat was born in Chicoutimi and joined the Chaudière Regiment in 1945. He soon remustered to the Topographical Surveyor trade with the Royal Canadian Engineers where he served the remainder of his military career.

    Donat's career as a Military Engineer Surveyor started in the Army Survey Establishment in Ottawa. As a ‘field man’ he worked with Army Survey on mapping projects such as Seven Islands QC, Yorkton SK and Toronto. A highlight of his career was an Exchange Position with 42 Survey Engineer Regiment.in England with the Royal Engineers (1973-1975). He worked as a Photogrammetrist for a few years before being commissioned. After commissioning Donat served as the Administration Officer for Mapping and Charting Establishment before being posted to the Royal Military College as a Survey Instructor. Upon his retirement from the CF in 1979 he joined CIDA, where he enjoyed a second career.

    Family and friends are invited to visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue (at Richmond Road) on Friday, 23 March from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m. with a Knights of Columbus Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Parish, 44 Rothesay Drive, Kanata on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Those wishing may make a donation to a charity of choice.
