Capt Allan Gorrie, CD will be retiring from the Canadian Armed Forces on 15 Oct 2014 with 35 years of loyal and dedicated service to the CAF, CME and the National Defence Fire Service. Capt. Allan Gorrie was born 11 Jul 1960 in Edmonton, Alberta and enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces on 11 Oct 1979. Upon completion of Boot Camp in Cornwallis, NS, he reported to the Canadian Forces Fire Academy at Camp Borden for Fire Ftr Apprenticeship QL 3 training. Allan would return several times throughout his career until his final trades’ course - Fire Ftr Managers QL 7 - in Dec 2003.
During Allan’s 35 year career as a direct entry military fire fighter, he served with the Royal Canadian Air Force, the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Army, and with the United Nations. He enjoyed postings to CFB Comox, HMC Ships Assiniboine, Vancouver, and Montreal; CFB Cold Lake; United Nations Disengagement Observation Force (UNDOF) Golan Heights; 1 Cdn Air Div HQ Winnipeg; and 3 Cdn Div Base Edmonton.
Over the past 35 years, Allan was employed in a number of fire service and out-of-trade roles. These roles include: operational fire fighter to fire ground commander; Det Fire Chief PLER; Chief Fire Inspector; Contingent Fire Chief UNDOF; Deputy Fire Chief; Fire Chief; Edm Engr Svcs Coy Acting Company Sergeant Major; Edm Grn Acting Regiment Sergeant Major; 1 Cdn Air Div Deputy Command Fire Marshal; and 1 Cdn Air Div Deputy Mission Support CWO.
In May 2009, then CWO Gorrie accepted the Special Requirements Commissioning Plan (SRCP) and was commissioned to Captain in a ceremony at the Edm Grn Fire Dept.
After 35 years of continuous service, Capt Allan Gorrie will retire from the Canadian Armed Forces and his position as the 3 Cdn Div Base Edm Fire Chief effective 15 Oct 2014. Allan and his wife Sherry have decided to travel before making plans for their future.
