F/Lt Archibald “Archie” Ernest Graham, CD (Ret’d)
-
We regret to advise of the death of Flight Lieutenant Archibald “Archie” Ernest Graham, CD (Ret’d) on 3 August 2016 at the Perley & Rideau Veteran's Health Centre at the age of 97 years.
Archie was a proud firefighter who was a veteran of WW II. During the summer of 1940 at the height of the Battle of Britain, he decided that he would like to be a Fighter Pilot. Reporting to the recruiting center at Charlottetown PE, he passed the Aircrew medical and the IQ test but was rejected for Aircrew as he only had a Grade 8 Public School Certificate. Archie was very interested in the new Ground Crew Trade of “Firefighter” that was opening up but had to wait nearly a year before being accepted and starting what was to be his career.
Archie served at RCAF stations in Canada during the war and, after the war, joined the Permanent Force with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Among his career highlights was his having served as the RCAF Air Division Fire Marshal in Metz, France in 1954. After his retirement from the Canadian Forces, he was Fire Marshal with the Ottawa Civic Hospital.
Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa on 9 August 2016 from 11 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. - Service in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. A Reception will follow. Interment in the Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte.
As an expression of sympathy donations to the Perley & Rideau Veteran's Health Centre. Condolences/Tributes/Donations may be offered at Hulse, Playfair & McGarry www.hpmcgarry. {khAug2016}
