    WO Sébastien Fortin, CD, will retire on 21 April 2021 after more than 19 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch.  Anecdotes and retirement wishes may be sent to the OPI, WO S. Legault at Stephane.Legault3@forces.gc.ca.


    WO Fortin retires from the CAF on April 21, 2021 with over 19 years of loyal service to Canada, the Canadian Armed Forces and the Royal Canadian Engineers. Sébastien was born on July 13, 1979 in Montreal, QC. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces on April 5, 2002 in the Regular Force as a Combat Engineer. During his career he was assigned to several different Units and Bases including;

    - Valcartier at the 5th Combat Engineering Regiment (5RGC), at the 2nd Canadian Division Training Center (CI 2DIV CA) and at the Land Force Quebec Sector Training Center (CI SQFT),

    - Edmonton to the "1 Combat Engineer Regiment" (1CER),

    - Gagetown at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering (CFSME) and,

    - St-Jean-sur-Richelieu at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School (CFLRS).

    During this period, he completed with honors the Armored Engineering course, Elementary Land Leadership Qualification and Combat Engineering Troop WO QL6B. In addition, he succeeded in several military qualifications including; Combat Diver, Parachuting and Helicopter Insertion Master.

    WO Fortin was the first Badger AEV (Armored Engineer Vehicle) in operation in Afghanistan and he had the honor of commanding the first Raft to cross it between Orleans Island and the south shore of the St. Lawrence River. .

    During his career, he accomplished several missions and deployments including, Kabul in Afghanistan in 2004-2005, in 2006-2007 and in 2010-2011.

    He was finally assigned to the St-Jean Transition Center on April 3, 2020. He thus completed a busy career, serving his country with dedication and pride.
