    We regret to advise of the death of Sapper Albert George Renauld (Ret’d) peacefully after a long illness in Stonewall MB on 3 August 2014 at the age of 94. 

    George was a WW II veteran.  George joined the Royal Canadian Engineers in January 1940 in Fort William (now Thunder Bay) ON. He went overseas with the 1st Division, 9th Field Park and served in England attached to the British 26th ME Heavy Equipment section. He served in the Central Mediterranean Area with the same unit, as well as in Continental Europe with the Canadian 3rd and 5th Divisions. When the war ended, he returned to the 1st Division in Holland and then back to Canada. He was discharged in Winnipeg MB in November 1945. He worked in the construction industry spending the majority of his life in Winnipeg MB and Edmonton AB.  He officially retired at the age of 83 and settled in Stonewall.  George joined the RCL after his discharge and was a member of the Hodgson Branch 158, the Strathcona Legion Branch 150 in Edmonton AB, and the Stonewall Branch #52 after he retired in 1983 in Stonewall.

    A celebration of George’s life will be held at MacKenzie Funeral Home, 433 Main Street in Stonewall on 11 August with interment at the Stonewall Cemetery to follow.  A reception will be held at the Stonewall Legion.  Donations may be made to the Stonewall Legion Branch No. 52 Poppy Fund.  {dc/gdMay2016kh}
