Kenneth Oliver “Ken” Wick

    We regret to advise of the death of Kenneth Oliver “Ken” Wick on 6 May 2009 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in Thunder Bay, ON at the age of 72 years.

    Ken was born on Thompson Island, Lake of the Woods, ON and lived there his first five years before moving to the Sunshine Valley near Nipigon, ON.  At the age of 16 he moved west and after working in the construction industry, He joined the Royal Canadian  Engineers in 1952 and served in the 57th Independent Field Squadron in Chilliwack, BC and 1 Airborne Troop in Calgary, AB. 

    Ken left the army in 1956 and went to work as a forester for Ontario Hydro and later as a rigger at the Red Rock, ON paper mill.  He was very active in the Nipigon community holding membership in various committees as well as being an events’ organiser.  He was a member of the Lions Club, the Fall Fishing Festival Committee, the Nipigon Figure Skating Club and Elk’s Hockey as a coach and referee.  He was also an Elder of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Nipigon.  In 1993 Ken was awarded the Nipigon Citizen of the Year award.

    Visitation will be held at the Epiphany Lutheran Church, 499 Dewe Avenue, Thunder Bay followed by a funeral service on 12 May at 11:00 AM.  Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.   {gdApr2017dc}  [zsd, zpp]
