    We regret to advise the death of Corporal George Alexander Swift (Ret’d) at St Joseph’s Hospital in Comox, BC on 3 June 2012.

    George was born in 1921 and grew up in Stonewall, MB. He joined the Royal Canadian Engineers in WW II and served in England and Continental Europe. He was discharged in 1945 and returned to Stonewall to take up farming. However, after six years he left farming and moved to British Columbia, settling in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island.

    George became very successful in the heavy construction sector. In 1958 he was the General Foreman for Marwell Construction-- at the time a major construction company in British Columbia--building the Upper Levels Highway (Trans Canada Highway #1) out of Horseshoe Bay. His career took him throughout BC building roads and other large scale projects.

    A memorial service will be held on 22 June at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 17, 367 Cliffe Avenue, Courtney, BC. {gdJan2016kh}
