We regret to advise of the death of Roderick P. “Roddie” Schaller at the An Cala unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on 22 June 2012 at the age of 72 years.

Roddie joined the Canadian Army at the age of 17 and served in the Royal Canadian Engineers for three years. After leaving the army he returned to Sydney and worked for several years before moving to work in Halifax.  In 1974, Roddie returned to the Sydney area to do drywall installing and finishing and he took great pride in doing this work for more than 30 years.  Roddie was active in community activities serving as a Beaver and Cub leader and was Commodore and property chairman of the Mira Boat Club for a number of years.

A celebration of Roddie’s life will be held on 26 June at 10:00 AM at the S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home in Sydney with a reception to follow.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, the Cape Breton Cancer Center, or a to charity of one’s choice. {dcApr2017gd} [zsd, zsp]
