    We regret to advise that Corporal Jean-Francois Drouin was killed in action on 6 September 2009 in the Dand District, south-west of Kandahar City, Afghanistan at the age of 31. 

    Jean-Francois was a Combat Engineer serving with 5e Regiment du génie de combat in Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Valcartier, QC.  At the time of his death. he was serving with the 2nd Battalion Royal 22e Regiment Battle Group.  

    Jean- Francois was a native of Quebec City, QC.   He joined the Canadian Forces in 2006 and after completing his Combat Engineer training at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in CFB Gagetown, NB he was posted to 5e Regiment du génie de combat.  He was killed as a result of an improvised explosive device (IED).  He was on his first operational deployment.

    A repatriation ceremony was held in CFB Trenton on 9 September.  Visitation will take place at the St-Louis de Courville Church, 2315, Royale Avenue, Beauport, QC from 9:00 to 10:30 on 19 September.  A religious service will follow.  Interment of his ashes will take place at a later date in the parish cemetery.  {gd/rtJan2017dc}  [zsp, zsd, zcc]
